Dun Glen Gold

Pershing County Nevada Gold Project w/ Extensive Placer Gold History

Location Historic Resources Status
Pershing County, Nevada

Summary and Location

The claims are located within one of Nevada’s most productive historical placer districts, with an estimated $4m of gold recovered prior to 1900. The district is known for extensive and deep placer deposits concentrated on bedrock.

The source of this widespread placer gold is believed to be high-grade lode veins within the range, many of which may still be undiscovered. The project offers a district-scale opportunity with both placer and hard rock potential.

The Dun Glen Canyon Claims are located in Pershing County, Nevada, approximately 8 miles northeast of Mill City and 46 miles north of Lovelock, within the northern part of the East Range.

Geology

The project targets placer gold deposits within the drainages of Dun Glen Canyon and the potential lode sources in the surrounding hills. The gold is described as being concentrated on bedrock and on benches along the canyon sides, under gravels ranging from 18 to 40 feet deep.

The source of the extensive placer gold is erosion from post-Triassic quartz veins carrying gold, silver, and sulfide minerals. Site visits have confirmed the presence of abundant iron-stained quartz float and outcrops throughout the claims, which is indicative of the potential lode sources mentioned in historical reports.

History

Placer gold in the Sierra District, which includes Dun Glen Canyon, was discovered in the 1860s. The area saw its most significant production between 1870 and 1895, when it was worked by large crews of miners. Contemporary reports, while anecdotal, estimate that over $4 million in gold was recovered during this period, making it one of Nevada’s premier placer districts. Production was concentrated in the major drainages of Auburn, Barber, and Rockhill Canyons, with Dun Glen Canyon also being a known and documented producer.

Activity in the 20th century was more sporadic, with a resurgence of small-scale placer mining in the 1930s. Evidence of this long history, including hand-stacked tailings, prospect pits, and the remains of a gated adit and collapsed ore bin, is visible on and around the claims today, confirming the area was actively mined.
