Wyoming Gold Project w/ Large-Scale Placer & Lode Potential

Location Historic Resources Status
Freemont County, Wyoming
Greenfield
Under Contract

Summary and Location

The Wyoming Gold project comprises of vast Eocene placer gold deposits (Dickie Springs/Oregon Gulch fans) with USGS-estimated potential for 28 million ounces. Additionally,  an underlying Archean bedrock source, likely Banded Iron Formation, has been targeted by historical drilling (7 PPM Au) and geophysical surveys.

Located in Fremont County, Wyoming, approximately 40 miles south of Lander and 10 miles south of the Wind River Range, on the Continental Divide.

Geology

The project targets two main deposit types: 1) Eocene-age placer gold within thick conglomerates of the Wasatch Formation (Dickie Springs/Oregon Gulch fans); and 2) the underlying Archean bedrock source, interpreted primarily as Banded Iron Formation within the Goldman Meadows Formation, and potentially vein-hosted gold in metagraywackes (Miners Delight Fm.) of a greenstone belt sequence. The Continental Fault, a major Laramide structure, is a key control on the deposition of the placer gold and the exposure/concealment of the Archean source rocks.

Metals reported include gold, with pyrite, arsenopyrite, and galena noted in historical drilling associated with the Skinner Federal #1-9 well. An extensive east-west trending linear magnetic anomaly, defined by Hecla’s airborne survey, is interpreted as the BIF target. Several Induced Polarization (IP) anomalies were also identified, suggesting potential sulfide mineralization.

Exploration and Resources

The Oregon Butte/Dickie Springs area has been known for placer gold since 1863, with sporadic small-scale mining. In 1978, a U.S. Geological Survey report (Love, Antweiler, Mosier) highlighted the potential for up to 28 million ounces of gold in the Eocene conglomerate fans, significantly increasing interest in the area. Prior to Hecla’s involvement, the Skinner Federal #1-9 oil well reportedly intersected 7 PPM gold in the Precambrian basement.

In early 1985, Hecla Mining Company acquired extensive leases and staked additional claims to evaluate both the placer and bedrock potential.
